Sweet Banana and Spinach Smoothie

May 6, 2011 by Garlic Girl 3 Comments

Although wonderfully sweet and tasty, I can imagine that the thought of drinking something green is not that appealing at first.  But trust me, most green smoothies are not only totally healthy, but totally delicious! If you’ve never tried a green smoothie, especially one with spinach, now’s the time! You’d be surprised how the banana just marries the flavors perfectly. If you love green drinks, you’ll love this one and if you’re not a big fan now, just try it, you might be glad you did!

I love smoothies after I exercise or as a late night dessert, but these minute meals can be perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack too!

Enjoy!

Sweet Banana and Spinach Smoothie

Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1-2 bananas cut in chunks and frozen
  • 1 handful cleaned dried spinach leaves
  • 1 teaspoon spiralina or favorite green powder mix, e.g., matcha
  • 1 teaspoon raw sunflower seeds
  • about one cup soy milk or rice, almond or any milk will do

Instructions

  • Put all ingredients in the blender jar and blend until smooth. Can be customized to your taste by adding a few ice cubes or experimenting with the portions. Make it your way!

I’m new to green drinks so was wondering what brand of spirulina do you use. I just got some from Earthrise. It tastes/smells ok – has slight fishy smell, but are there ones out there that doesn’t smell fishy?

Thanks for the recipe. I didn’t have all the right ingredients but it still tasted pretty good! Thinking of adding more frozen fruit for breakfast.

Hi Lauren – I’m using the 100% organic spirilina by Earthrise (maybe the same one you’re using). I know what you mean about that fishy smell out of the jar, and I believe I’ve noticed that with other brands too. But I always find it’s not detectable once incorporated in the smoothie.
