Homemade Chai Tea with Soy Milk

June 12, 2011 by Garlic Girl 3 Comments

There’s something very comforting about tea. Just thinking about a cup of tea sometimes can start to soothe my body and spirit when I’m sick or feeling down. I’m not sure what it is, but the last couple weeks I’ve been feeling out of sorts and looking for simple ways to be comforted. Last week on my way home from work, I decided to visit my mom in Santa Cruz and I stopped for a Chai Latte at Staff of Life – one of my favorite natural food stores in the Bay Area. It was the perfect little pick-me-up and I was so glad to discover they make their own Chai and that it’s not syrupy and overly sweetened the way it is at most places.

Since that day, I’ve been making Chai for myself for the comfort factor and the taste factor.  I know there’s no limit to the different variations of Chai, but wanted to share my favorite way to prepare it. You may also like this combo, but feel free to customize the ingredients and amounts to your taste!

If you’ve not made Chai at home with all the yummy spices, you’re definitely missing out on a treat. It’s not as easy as simply throwing a tea bag in a cup with hot water, but it’s defintely worth the extra time! So gather up the cinnamon stick, cardamom and fresh ginger and get ready for a cup of comfort!
